Alphabet Soup Preschool opened in the Spring of 2006 in the town of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The Preschool’s founders, Jeannette Mayes and Daniel Van Hamersfeld, evaluated the full day preschool alternatives on San Juan Island for their own children and found that there were limited full day options for working families. They decided that the best way to insure an outstanding experience for their own children was to open a preschool themselves.

On the first day of business Alphabet Soup had one employee and eight children in one preschool classroom. Since then Alphabet Soup has had the opportunity to provide care and education to more than 350+ San Juan Island children.

The Friday Harbor location currently has three lead teachers and five support employees. The center provides full and half day preschool options. In addition to the primary preschool classroom, the facility includes pre-kindergarten and toddler rooms. The Friday Harbor location is licensed for 42 students. Alphabet Soup Preschool will be expanding to the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle in the Summer of 2011.
